I have found a few people who create customized books and I must say I am getting to like the idea. Tim Baker is probably the best in the business though.
As much as you may think you do or don't judge a book by it's cover, if you see a book that looks like this, you are most likely going to pick it up and explore...

Here's what he said about the one above:
I have always loved Ammonite fossils. I have two of them, so i made a mold, cast a bunch in plaster and carved them down to different sizes. I layed them out and filled the holes with dirt and did another mold. I cast it in a two part Urethane plastic and painted to look like the surface of fossil rock. The curvy brass stuff is cast, the hinges are piano hinges hidden around the bulbous bits :-)
I think that you will agree with me in saying that you have not seen a book look so inviting.
